Custom Flamenco Guitars
Jason McGuire’s flamenco journey began as a nine-year old child fascinated by his instrument of choice, the guitar. Studying on his own inspired by his mother, a folk singer who also played, he is largely self-taught and by personal inspiration, long hours of study and surrounding himself with other great artists and mentors, became one of the finest musicians and composers in the U.S. His interest in building began 20 years ago as his career as a player blossomed and he was handed instruments by other luthiers, making the personal touches and changes he needed and wanted on those guitars for maximum precision and musicality. Jason worked for a time at Fender, where he simultaneously grew in woodworking and studied the complexities and techniques necessary to build fine instruments that he himself would want in his own collection. Light in weight, airy and precise when played, he has come to guitarmaking as a player himself who makes instruments that he loves and is inspired by. His clients offer many testimonials and one of his favorites is “feels like butter.” Jason McGuire “El Rubio” guitars literally play themselves, made out of the respect and love he holds for the art of flamenco and classical music. He builds them step by step in consultation with his client’s requests and desires if custom ordered, helping to find the winning combination for every individual player, and for every individual’s need whether for a professional or a hobbyist. His unique sense of touch and ear for tone, sonority and playability is excellent and essential to his success as a luthier, as well as a player and composer. Jason has found in guitar construction yet another calling, and aims to build the flamenco or classical guitar of your dreams.
